There are multiple scenarios that affect the Applying of Devices to animals. With animals possibly having any combination of up to three identifiers (Management Tag, NLISID and RFID), careful management of these identifiers is required.
Scenarios of Device status on animals:
You want to apply an NLIS device and/or a Management Tag.
•Setup the NLIS devices and Management Tags in Devices (refer to Setup Devices). •Select the animals on the system to which you want to apply device/s. •Click on the Toolbar and select Apply Devices. •In the Apply Devices window there are two grids. On the left, there is a grid for the animals you have selected and on the right, a grid of unused devices. At the top enter the date. •Click on an animal in the left hand grid and taking careful note of the Management Tag, click on the NLIS device (that was applied) in the grid on the right. •Click on between the two grids and the device/s will appear in the animal grid (Click the double right arrow to undo). •When finished, click Save. |
•Click on the Toolbar and select Apply Devices. •Click . •Browse to the file containing the animals with their ID’s and click Open. The file will need to be in .csv or .txt file format. If you cannot see your file, be sure that the Files of Type is set to view .csv or .txt file formats. •The next window is the File Import window. The contents of the file is displayed at the bottom. As there are a multitude of file formats, you will need to map the columns in relation to their contents. The RFID and NLISID columns by default should already be mapped. If the file contains headers or other sundry information at the top, you can select the number of lines to ignore at the top and bottom of the file. Type the number of lines into the respective Ignore fields. •In the Column Mapping section there is list of columns. Click in the adjacent cell to be presented with a dropdown list of headings. Select the heading that defines the content of that column. You will only need to map the Management Tag column for this exercise as the NLISID and RFID columns should already be mapped. •When finished, click OK. The Apply Devices window will now display the animals and their corresponding devices in the animal grid on the left hand side.

In this situation the only thing required is to fill in the missing NLISID or RFID. As these two numbers are linked you cannot just add any ID. The missing information can be obtained direct from the MLA database and automatically update your records. To do this:
•Download a Device/Tag file from the MLA website (refer to NLIS Database – Download Data on how to do this). •Click on the Toolbar. •Click . •Select the file you have downloaded from the MLA database. This file will need to be in .csv or .txt file format. If you cannot see your file, be sure that the Files of Type is set to view .csv or .txt file formats. •The next window is the File Import window. The contents of the file is displayed at the bottom. As there are a multitude of file formats, you will need map the columns in relation to their contents. The RFID and NLISID columns by default should already be mapped. If the file contains headers or other sundry information at the top, you can select the number of lines to ignore at the top and bottom of the file. Type the number of lines into the respective Ignore fields. •No other columns need to be mapped for this scenario. •When finished, click OK. The previously missing ID’s should now be populated.

Nothing needs to be done as the animal already has all possible identifiers assigned. If one or more of these devices needs to be changed, refer to the Replace Devices.

With partially tagged animals that require an additional device, you will need to link the animals existing device to the newly Applied Device.
