To Save a Spreadsheet

Scroll Prev Top Next More

You have the choice of saving the spreadsheet back to the file from which it was loaded with the Save option from the File menu, or saving it to another file with the Save As option in the File menu.

Either

Select the Save option from the File menu

Or

Select the Save icon from the Tool Bar.

An existing budget file that you have loaded into the spreadsheet will be saved immediately to the same file name.

If you are saving a new budget, the Save File window is displayed and you are prompted to give the new budget file a name. If the name you enter already exists you will be prompted to use another name of delete the pre-existing budget first.

After you have saved the data you will return to the budget. Notice that the file name appears in the Window Title bar to remind you which file you are currently working on.  If you entered a title for the spreadsheet, it will appear on the line below the Tool bar.  When you select Save again from either the Tool bar or the File menu you will not be promoted for this information again.  The budget will simply update the current information to the file displayed.

The Save As option will prompt you for the information initially requested when you were arranging the Save option.  It can be used to rename the currently open file creating another copy under the new name.

When saving a budget, an appropriate file-naming scheme might be as follows;

1306CROP

0308BANK

1st & 2nd          Year Updated       21 for 2021

3rd  & 4th         Month Updated     06 for June

Remainder      Who the budget was prepared for, or what the sheet related to.

Tip: Keep the filename short and concise, do not use any punctuation or spaces.

This scheme presents the files in chronological order. If further information about assumptions made, or enterprises included in the budget needs to be recorded, use the Title, Description and Remarks fields presented during Save to record this. This further information is also available under the properties button.
